BT Group has been a leader on climate action for over 30 years. We have been tracking our carbon reductions since 1992, and we went on to become one of the first companies in the world to set a 1.5-degree target, with approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), back in 2017. With our latest targets, we have pledged to become a net zero business by the end of March 2031, and we are committed to net zero across our full value chain by the end of March 2041. All these targets have been validated and approved by the SBTi as being aligned with their 1.5°C mitigation pathways for reaching net-zero by 2050 or sooner.
The publication of our first Climate Transition Plan summarises progress made in cutting our emissions. Our plan, developed against the framework set by the UK Transition Plan Taskforce, also lays out in detail the objectives, strategy and governance required to help us decarbonise our business, manage climate related risks and support economy wide transformation.
We have made solid progress against our climate goals, but there is more to do. We remain committed to net zero, and to being transparent which is why we will continue to provide progress updates each year through our Annual Report and every three years through an updated Climate Transition Plan.
