If you've got Fibre to the Home or Fibre Home Phone you'll get a modem, a battery back-up unit and a BT Hub (if you don't have one already).
Openreach fibre modem
This is used to provide your voice and broadband service. It's also known as an Optical Network Termination box or ONT.
Your telephone or extension cable plugs into the telephone socket and your BT Hub plugs into the data socket.
Troubleshooting: I can't make or receive calls.
Is my modem powered up and working correctly?
What do the lights on the Openreach modem mean?
Openreach battery back-up unit
When we set up your phone service over fibre, we'll give you a battery back-up unit and a set of four rechargeable batteries. Their job is to keep your Openreach modem working if there's a power cut. The back-up unit keeps the batteries charged up, and also tells you when the batteries need replacing. It's your responsibility to replace them when required.
If you're installing Fibre to the Home yourself, make sure your Hub is switched on the day before we're due to activate the service.
Questions about the battery back-up unit
Voice wiring socket (optional)
This is only available if you ordered our Fibre Home Phone service.
This socket is used to connect your existing main telephone socket and extensions to the Openreach modem. You will need to make sure it's switched to the correct setting.
