Your guide to Guest Wi-Fi

Everyone loves free wi-fi. Now you can offer it.

Guest Wi-Fi is the fast, fuss-free way for you to give your customers free, unlimited wi-fi. It gets them online while keeping your private network safe, secure, and running smoothly.

Want to shout about it from the rooftops? Get some great free Guest Wi-Fi posters and stickers.

What’s the difference between Guest Wi-Fi and BT Wi-Fi?

Both Guest Wi-Fi and BT Wi-Fi are public networks. This means they're totally separate from your own private network, keeping you safe and secure.

BT Wi-Fi allows registered users to log in and get online. BT broadband customers can use BT Wi-Fi for free. All BT hubs come with BT Wi-Fi as standard - and it’s activated automatically. Find out more about BT Wi-Fi.

Guest Wi-Fi is exclusively available on the BT Business Smart Hub. It’s free for your guests to use and they can get online with a single click. You’ll need to switch it on first.

Is Guest Wi-Fi secure?

As Guest Wi-Fi is a public network and separate from your private network, it removes security risks and keeps all your data and sensitive information safe.

Sharing the password for your private network comes with risk. There’s no password to share with Guest Wi-Fi so cyber criminals can’t access your data or devices.

Guest Wi-Fi also takes away the legal risk. You’re legally liable for all content viewed over your private network. So, if anyone does something illegal online while logged in with your password, you're at risk of prosecution. Because Guest Wi-Fi is a public network, if your customers, clients, or employees come across anything illegal, you're not liable - so they can't land you in hot water!

Even better, Guest Wi-Fi content controls block all inappropriate, illegal, or malicious material as standard, so it can't be viewed - even by accident.

How many guests can use Guest Wi-Fi?

Guest Wi-Fi gives up to 13 people unlimited free wi-fi for as long as they're in your business premises. When they leave, Guest Wi-Fi will automatically switch off.

Guest Wi-Fi also switches off if a guest hasn't used it for 10-15 minutes – giving other active users the chance to get online.

Even if Guest Wi-Fi was being used all day every day, it won't cost you a penny extra.

Does Guest Wi-Fi affect my speed?

We prioritise your private network to protect the performance of your business. So, no matter how many people are using Guest Wi-Fi at the same time, you can always rely on 80% of your available speed for your business when you need it most.
