What is BT Voicemail?
BT Voicemail is the multi-feature answering service that lets you retrieve messages from any phone, anywhere. If you miss a call because you're on the phone, it will take a message and ring you shortly after you've hung up or logged off and tell you that you have a message.
- Create your own personal greeting
- Choose the number of rings before a call is answered
- Store up to 30 messages - of up to 5 minutes long for 30 days
- BT's Missed Calls Service identifies up to 3 callers who have dialled and hung up without leaving a message (assuming they have not withheld their number)
- Link Voicemail to your mobile - you need to set up a PIN from your home phone. Once you're set up, we'll send a text whenever you receive a voicemail
BT Call Protect
Voicemail also includes BT Call Protect - a new service that will send nuisance and unwanted calls to a junk voicemail. It helps to stop the worst offending nuisance calls, as well as providing you with the control to stop other unwanted calls. It’s simple and easy to manage.
To find out more information on this service and how to manage it, go to www.bt.com/help/bt-call-protect >
By having BT Call Protect with Voicemail, you'll also receive two extra features that work alongside your personal voicemail service. And don’t worry; your Voicemail service will carry on working as normal. Here’s what you’ll get:
- VIP – Make sure your important calls are never sent to your junk voicemail, irrespective of your other settings
- Do Not Disturb - If you don’t want to be disturbed by callers at certain times of the day, you can use your 'Do Not Disturb' feature
Where available, BT Call Protect will be added to Voicemail. You'll receive a user guide with further information detailing how you can manage the service.
How much does it cost?
Voicemail costs £4.03 a month.
How do I get it?
You can easily add or remove Calling Features online >
I’ve forgotten my Voicemail PIN number - what can I do?
You can change your PIN without needing to know the old number, as long as this is done from the line on which Voicemail is installed (this will not work remotely). Just follow the prompts - the instructions are in the Message Retrieval Options.
How do I access my Voicemail messages when away from my home/office?
You can access messages remotely using your PIN. Dial the number on which Voicemail is installed, and when Voicemail answers press * to break into the greeting and follow this with your PIN. The system will then transfer to the message retrieval part of the dialogue and then proceed as normal.
How do I know if I have any messages with Voicemail?
Pick up the handset and listen to the tone. If the tone is more rapid than usual, then new messages are waiting for you. If you are not sure whether the tone is different or not, then dial 185 (from your own phone) and check with the system.
BT Text SMS alerting feature
If your mobile is linked to Voicemail, you'll get a text message whenever someone leaves a voicemail on your messaging service.
To access your messages, dial your landline number from your linked mobile. When Voicemail answers, press # then enter your PIN.
To set up or cancel this feature call 0800 389 5660, which links to a fully automated service. You'll pay the standard rate for BT Text from landlines for the SMS message sent to your mobile.
What are Voicemail Extensions?
Voicemail Extensions has all the same features as Voicemail - plus the added convenience of up to eight separate message boxes for your phone line. Extensions is especially useful for:
- Busy family homes
- Shared accommodation such as student digs
- Home workers and small businesses
It means that everyone in the house can get straight to their own messages without listening to everyone else's. And because every message box has its own unique PIN, each one is totally private.
I keep asking the Voicemail system to delete my messages, but it still saves some. What is going wrong?
After each message plays the system will ask you whether it should remove the message. Double check that you are saying ‘yes’ and/or pressing ‘1’ for ‘yes’ on a touch-tone phone.
If this is not the problem, the default response is to save the messages, so one of the following may be the cause:
- Background noise may be confusing the system
- The system may not understand your voice commands. Try using the buttons only to see if this is the cause.
If you have ruled out the possibilities above and still have problems, you should report the fault >
Is my alarm system compatible with Voicemail?
Some social alarm and burglar alarm equipment may not be compatible with BT Voicemail. Please check with your alarm supplier.
