Let?s Users bar certain outgoing call types; or incoming calls.

BT's Call Barring service will only bar calls made via the BT Network and not those made via alternative Service Providers. Reverse charge calls may still be accepted when Call Barring has been activated.

Customers who contract for BT's Call Barring service and who are also BT Communicator* customers (See Section 3 Part 1) will be able to use the Internet Call Barring service, allowing the barring of certain types of numbers on calls made through a User?s PC.

Caller Display

Caller Display identifies the number calling the phone where there is compatible caller display equipment. Caller Display is subject to availability.

See Section 1 Part 31 for details of BT Privacy At Home.

Call Diversion

Lets the User divert calls to another number when the User is away from the phone. The numbers to which the call may be diverted include geographic numbers beginning with 01 and 02 and mobile numbers beginning with 07. Calls cannot be diverted to Premium Rate numbers.

Diverted calls are charged as follows:

  • the caller pays the call charge to the number they dialled; and
  • the diverted part of the call is charged to the Customer at standard dialled rates.

Call Diversion is available to the following international destinations: Australia (including Christmas & Cocos Islands), Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Malaysia, Norway, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and United States (excluding Hawaii).

When using BT's Call Diversion service, it is not possible to divert calls using Indirect Access codes. Call Diversion is not available to Premium Rate numbers.

Call Return (1471)

For Users with the facility to dial 1471, Call Return (1471) provides an announcement giving the time and date of the last call and the ability to return the call by pressing 3.

Where a User attempts to return the call by pressing 3, an additional charge will be incurred (except for FeatureNet Customers and Customers with BT Pay & Call) in addition to the normal dialled rates. The additional charge is for the provision of the return call attempt and will apply irrespective of whether the call is answered. Please note that Users registered with BT as disabled are not subject to this charge (to enquire about this register call 195).

Users can withhold their number as follows:

  • on a per call basis by prefixing the number with 141; or
  • permanently using the permanent withhold facility ? this will withhold the number for all calls.

Call Return is available to all single line customers. It is not available on PBX lines. Call Return (1471) may not be compatible with certain types of payphone.

Call Return (1571)

For Users with the facility to dial 1571 (Call Minder, BT Answer customers) to retrieve messages, the User will be able to dial 1571 followed by 0 to return a message.

The additional charge for the provision of the return call attempt will apply irrespective of whether the call is answered or not. Please note that Customers registered with BT as disabled are not subject to this charge (to enquire about this register call 195).

Users can withhold their number as follows:

  • on a per call basis by prefixing the number with 141; or
  • permanently using the permanent withhold facility ? this will withhold the number for all calls

Call Return is available to all single line customers. It is not available on PBX lines. Call Return (1571) may not be compatible with certain types of payphone.

Call Return (1471) Erasure (1475)

For Users with the facility to dial 1471, Users can replace details of their last Call Return 1471 data by using 1471 Erasure. The access code is 1475. This will replace the last caller's details with a message advising `number withheld'.

If Users have had their number permanently withheld and they wish to replace the last caller's details as above, they will have to release their number by dialling 1470 then dialling 1475. Call Return (1471) Erasure (1475) will not work if the customer's number is not released.

Call Return (1471) Erasure (1475) is not available with FeatureNet.

Call Sign

Provides a different telephone number to the main telephone number (this different number is the Call Sign number). The Call Sign number will ring with a different ring tone when someone calls it. Call Sign is offered subject to the availability of Call Sign numbers. Where a renumber is required to provide Call Sign, this will be offered free of charge.

Call Sign is compatible with all BT corded and most BT cordless phones, but may not be compatible with some other equipment.

Customers cannot choose their Call Sign number.

Call Sign is not available on BT Home or Business Highway.

Charge Advice

For technical reasons, at times of call price changes, the service may relate to the old rates for a short period following introduction of the new charges.

Charge Advice will over-estimate the cost of local, national and international calls and calls to mobile phones by up to 4.20 (exc. VAT), and should only be used for these calls. The costs quoted for other types of calls, such as to international mobile telephones, will be significantly different. For details of the international mobile numbers affected refer to relevant Section.

The estimate does not include VAT or any discounts applicable and rounds up to the nearest penny.

Ring Back

The User will receive a call to alert the User to a previously engaged number becoming free. Ring Back will keep trying the engaged number up to a maximum of 45 minutes. The charge is raised when the distinctive ringing occurs and the network is ready to set up the Ring Back call.

Three Way Calling

Three Way Calling is a conference calling service that allows three calls to join in the conversation. Each participant is charged at normal dialled rates for the part of the call that they dialled in to.
