Repair and Service Unavailability | | Product Description | In the event of a reported fault which causes `total loss of service', BT will reduce the annual rental charge in accordance with the details below: | Eligibility | All new and existing Services as indicated below: |
| Reduction in Annual Rentals | In circumstances where the Scheme applies, reductions in annual rental will be applied to the services listed above, in accordance with the rules and exceptions and the following table which is applied separately to each wavelength: |
| Conditions - 1.For the purpose of the Scheme, a delayed repair will become eligible for a reduction only if the reported fault causes `total loss of service' (i.e. no transmission of signals in one or both directions) for the duration of the qualifying period and occurs on the wavelength or associated network equipment between the Network Terminating Points.
- 2.An eligible failure means:
- For Wavestream wavelengths enjoying TotalCare, a failure that continues for more than 5 clock hours after it has been reported to BT by the customer.
- The Scheme will only be applicable when a total failure of the whole wavelength occurs. Failures affecting individual channels will not be considered as `eligible failures'.
- 3.Any reductions due as a result of the Scheme will only apply to the wavelength rental and not to any associated equipment or maintenance charges.
- 4.Customers with wavelengths enjoying TotalCare, will receive a percentage reduction, up to a maximum of 35%, of the annual rental for the period covered by the 12 Month Cycle. The percentage reduction of annual rental is calculated by reference to the rental due for the period covered by the 12 Month Cycle.
- 5.In all cases, the calculated reductions will be deducted from the amount due for the circuit rental for the following year unless the wavelength is terminated in which case a specific payment will be made.
- 6.`Working day' means:
- - For wavelengths enjoying TotalCare, a period of 24 hours commencing at anytime.
- 7.`Working hour' means:
- - A period of one hour occurring Monday to Saturday, 0800hrs to 1700hrs, excluding Public and Bank Holidays (as apply locally).
- 8.The Scheme does not apply to any failure of a wavelength arising from any suspension of the circuit for breach of the contract by the customer or in a case of paragraphs referring to `BT's general powers' or `Matters beyond BT's reasonable control' contained in BT's Conditions for Private Service.
- 9.The Scheme does not apply to inland tails of Offshore and International circuits and circuits to Kingston Upon Hull.

Wavestream Regional 2.5Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s |
A wavelength service provides point to point, chain, or ring connectivity at 2.5Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s per wavelength, between two customer sites separated by a distance of up to 70km. Wavestream Regional is a data service allowing the transport of a variety of protocols such as STM-16, FICON and Gigabit Ethernet. |
Wavestream Regional offers one initial active wavelength operating at 2.5Gbit/s or 10Gbit/s. Customers may, if and when they wish, upgrade the service to a maximum of 32 active wavelengths, per system (subject to survey). |
Provision of Service |
Product Description |
Wavestream Regional is a point-to-point data service offering high bandwidth service connectivity between customer sites, provided over dedicated optical fibres. It uses Dense Wave Division Multiplex (DWDM) technology. Dense Wave Multiplexing allows one pair of fibres to be split into 32 wavelengths, each capable of reaching up to 2.5 Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s. The systems can support a mixture of up to 32 wavelengths of 2.5 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s depending on fibre characteristics and overall route length. |
Each wavelength can support a different protocol and carry separate data. Wavestream Regional allows the Customer to send a combination of different protocols over one pair of fibres simultaneously. |
Wavestream Regional is suitable for linking BT serving exchanges up to 70 Km radial. |
There are three variants of the Wavestream Regional product - Wavestream Regional A (RO1), Wavestream Regional B (STD) and Wavestream Regional dual B (RO2). The Wavestream Regional A has two transmission paths and is provided on an assured basis. The Wavestream Regional B is a single transmission path. |
The Network Terminating Equipment (NTE), connected to the ends of these fibres, provides the interface appropriate to customer requirements and the service being provided. |
The Wavestream Regional service is offered in three distinct topologies. Each of these topologies is described below. |
Point to Point |
The Wavestream Regional service is set up between two customer sites using dedicated fibre routes. Depending on the fibre route distance amplification may be required (mid-point and/or end-point). |
NTE is provided at each end of the point to point service. |
Wavelength switching protection is also available for Point to Point Wavestream Regional A. |
Chain |
In this configuration a number of Wavestream Regional wavelengths are connected together to form a chain. |
A maximum of 25 Wavestream Regional wavelengths can be linked into a chain. A Wavestream Regional wavelength consists of a number of NTEs grouped into a single logical entity. Each Wavestream Regional wavelength can be included in only one chain. |
Wavelengths can be ordered between any two sites on a chain. |
Wavestream Regional A is not available with the chain topology. |
Wavelength switching protection is not available on a chain configuration. |
The first Wavestream Regional wavelength in the chain is delivered with the fibre route and an NTE with optical filters at each end. Each subsequent Wavestream Regional wavelength in the chain is delivered with the fibre route, optical filters at each end and an NTE at one end only. |
Ring |
In this configuration a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 16 Wavestream Regional wavelengths can be interconnected to form a ring. A Wavestream Regional wavelength consists of a number of NTEs grouped into a single logical entity. Each Wavestream Regional wavelength node can be included in only one ring. |
Wavelengths can be ordered between any two nodes on a ring. In addition each wavelength can be specified to be routed in either direction around the ring. |
Wavestream Regional A is not available with a ring topology. |
Wavelength switching protection is available so that the signal can be transported in the opposite direction around the ring in the event of a failure to arrive at its destination. |
Each Wavestream Regional wavelength in the ring is delivered with one NTE, the fibre route and optical filters at each end. |
Eligibility |
Wavestream Regional is available nationally within the UK to all customers requiring 2.5Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s services for a minimum of 12 months contract period. |
The Customers should note that Wavestream Regional services may not to be used to build, extend or replicate a core network. If such usage occurs BT may take appropriate action under the applicable Contract. Such action may include suspension and/or termination of the service(s). |
