Subpart 2:Ethernet Extension Services

With the exception of GEES 2500 and GEES 10000, all EES, FEES and GEES services have been withdrawn from new supply. Customers may order equivalent products from our SHDS Product Range.

Ethernet Extension Services is the name for a range of short distance (less than 25km) point to point communication products that predominantly carry Ethernet protocols between BT and customer sites.

The service is split into EES, for Ethernet speeds, FEES for Fast Ethernet speeds and ATM and GEES for Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel and STM16.

EES 10 and 10LR carry 10Mb Ethernet, EES/FEES 100, 155 and 622 carry 100Mb (Fast Ethernet), 155Mb (ATM) and 622Mb (ATM) and EES/GEES 1000, 1000ER 2500 and 10000 carry 1G Ethernet, 1G Fibre Channel, 2.5Gb STM16 and 10Gb. GEES/EES 1000ER supports connections of up to 35km.

In order to allow customers with existing LES services to benefit from EES based pricing, and as part of our migration process from LES to EES, customers can opt to migrate existing LES services to an Ethernet Extension Service price (EES), this means that customers with existing LES services can benefit from term discounts, external shifts and service upgrades. Please see the upgrades section of this Price List for more details.

Eligibility

Available nationally within the UK to all customers requiring interconnection of 2500 and/or 10000Mbit/s Ethernet, ATM and Fibre Channel LANs and SANs.

Pricing Information

All prices where quoted are exclusive of VAT.

Products have options for Unmanaged, Managed (remote diagnostics and alerts) and two resilience options.

Managed products include an ISDN router and circuit, this is used to allow for management alerts to be sent to the BT management centre to proactively inform our management team of faults in the service. This link can also be used to remotely diagnose any problems reported by the customer. Unmanaged services do not have this feature.

Resilience Option 1 offers greater resilience by providing two fibre paths connected to a single NTE at each site, with the assurance that a Main & Standby fibre pair will be diverse from one another. This diversity will be monitored to ensure that diversity is maintained throughout the life of the circuit. If a problem occurs on the Main fibre path the traffic will automatically be switched onto the standby path. This changeover will take up to 50mS. The two fibre paths are charged a distance rental, one for the Primary Link and the other for the Secondary Standby Link.

Alternatively, customers can install two completely separate links with diverse paths and opt for Resilience Option 2 to monitor the diversity between the two circuits, in this case one circuit will be charged at the standard price and the other circuit will be charged at Resilient Option 2 pricing, meaning increased per-end and link rentals. Whilst it is not possible to upgrade any existing service to Resilient Option 1, Resilient Option 2 can be used with one or two existing services, which will be checked for seperacy once the upgrade order is received.

For full diversity, separate duct access into the customer site will need to be provided, where the customer chooses not to pay for this then diversity will be from the first point of connection outside of the building.

Each connection charge is applied per end of the service.

The connection charge and annual rental for each End are not distance-dependent sums (i.e. they are fixed charges). The Main Link charge is calculated on the radial distance between the two local serving exchanges. If the customer's two sites are within the same local exchange area, the Main Link charge will not apply.

Shift Charges

Shifts are allowed at any time during the contract period. for GEES 2500 and GEES 10000 services only.

Where customers require an End (Hub Site or Remote) to be moved within the same building (an internal shift), Network Timescale rates (see Section 15) apply.

Where customers require the Local End to be moved to a new building (an external shift) within the same exchange area, then the appropriate connection charge for one Local End will apply. Where the external shift is made to a different exchange area, the appropriate connection charges for one Local End will apply. If both Local Ends are required to be shifted, standard connection charges for a new circuit will apply.

All shifts involve a break in service. If a break is unacceptable, a new circuit can be provided between the existing customer sites, with the appropriate connection charges and annual rentals being raised.

Regrade Charges

Please See Section12 Part11 Sub-Part5 for the prevailing regrade charges applicable to the relevant EES service.

Ancillary Charges (Excess Construction Charges)

The standard connection charge assumes that suitable fibres are already in place between the BT exchange and the on-site connection point. If such fibres do not exist, or additional work is required then additional charges will be levied. The customer will be informed of these charges prior to work commencing.

Charges for infrastucture over and above standard requirements are given in Section 45 Part 1 These charges include work on internal trunking & traywork; breaking through walls; additional poles, ducts and cables; radio charges and miscellaneous non-standard or specially requested items.

Ordering, Provision and Cancellation

Orders received must be accompanied with a completed Customer Requirements Form (CRF).

Depending on the work to be completed, BT aims to provide all services within 33 working days. However it must be noted that in some cases the nature of the work required will cause this aspirational time to be extended. BT aims to deliver 70% of circuits within 33 working days, and 98% within 60 working days.

Cancellation Charges are incurred based upon the number of working days of the installation that remain. Any order can be cancelled up to 20 days prior to delivery without charge*

Service is provided under BT's "Conditions for Private Services".

Where service cannot be provided, the order will be cancelled without liability.
