Subpart 1:Reverse Charge Calls

A Reverse Charge call is paid for by the person receiving the call rather than the one making it.

Eligibility

Reverse charge calls can be made from ordinary lines, or payphone lines in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands*. They can be made to ordinary lines in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, but not to mobile, pager, Freefone, number translation service numbers (such as 0800, 0845 and 0870), or payphone numbers.

* Reverse charge calls can be made from ordinary lines or payphones (not mobile phones) in the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland. For Collect Calls from the Republic of Ireland to the UK (except Northern Ireland) please see Section 40 of the BT Price List.

Reverse Charge calls to the Republic of Ireland must be made through the Ireland Direct service, which is part of Eircom.

Pricing Information

Inland Reverse Charge Calls From Ordinary Residential and Business Lines

The price of Reverse Charge Calls from Ordinary Lines is calculated in two parts:

  • a) For Inland calls the operator service charge is £4.851 excluding VAT (£5.58 including VAT) and is added to the call charge.
  • b) The call charge depends upon how long it lasts. Call charges are listed in the tables below:

Charges are for each minute or part thereof. The minimum call charge is for five minutes. Local and national calls are defined in Section2 Part.1

Reverse Charge Calls From Republic of Ireland to Ordinary Residential and Business Lines in Northern Ireland.

Reverse Charge calls to Northern Ireland from fixed telephones in the Republic of Ireland will be charged at the appropriate Inland rate.

Inland Reverse Charge Calls From Payphones

The price of Reverse Charge Calls from Payphones is calculated in two parts:

  • a) For Inland calls the operator service charge is £2.289 excluding VAT (£2.64including VAT) and is added to the call charge.
  • b) The call charge depends upon how long it lasts. Call charges are listed in the tables below:

Charges are for each 30 second period or part 30 seconds. The minimum charge is for 30 seconds. Local and national calls are defined in Section 2 Part. 1 VAT exclusive prices will be used to calculate the charges from public or rented payphone lines.

Fixed Lines only Reverse Charge calls from the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland are charged to the paying customer in the UK as if the call had been made from that linetothe Isle of Man, Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland.

All charges are billed to the number receiving the call.

There is no operator service charge or call charge if the call cannot be connected, or the called person refuses to pay for it.

Conditions

BT's Terms & Conditions for Business Service or BT's terms and conditions for residential service as appropriate apply.

The called person must agree to pay for the call before it is connected.

Additional Information

These prices only apply to calls to BT numbers, not to non-BT lines, or numbers in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, or Republic of Ireland. Charges for those calls are determined by the Telecommunications Operator serving the called number.
