SHDS Connect is the name for a range of short distance (less than 45km) point to point communication products that carry Ethernet protocols between customer sites.

The standard service provides a single dedicate fibre between the two paths terminated by Network Terminating Equipment appropriate to the speed of service and type of customer interface.

Resilience Option 1 offers resilience by providing two fibre paths connected to a single NTE at each site, with the assurance that a Main & Standby fibre pair will be diverse from one another. This diversity will be monitored to ensure that diversity is maintained throughout the life of the circuit. If a problem occurs on the Main fibre path the traffic will automatically be switched onto the standby path. This changeover will take up to 50mS. The two fibre paths are charged a distance rental which equates to providing two separate fibre routes.

Alternatively, customers can install two completely separate links with diverse paths and opt for Resilience Option 2 to monitor the diversity between the two circuits, in this case one circuit will be charged as a primary circuit, the other as a secondary.

For full diversity, separate duct access into the customer site will need to be provided, where the customer chooses not to pay for this then diversity will be from the first point of connection outside of the building.

The Local Access option allows for a connection between a customer?s site and a BT exchange, this is typically used where a customer is using BT exchanges to locate equipment.

Excluding our Extended Reach product, the maximum distance far any SHDS Connect service is 25km. The extended Reach product can deliver service up to 45km.

For customers who require more accurate information regarding the proposed service in advance of placing an order, A Desk -Top survey will provide an indicative quote and delivery time-scales with line plant reservation for 30 days, whereas a Full Survey will provide a firm quote including all Excess Construction Charges (ECCs), Time Related Charges (TRCs) and delivery time-scales, and is valid for a period of 90 calendar days.

Pricing Information

All prices where quoted are exclusive of VAT.

The connection charge and annual rental are applied per-end and are not distance-dependent sums (i.e. they are fixed charges). The Main Link charge is calculated on the radial distance between the two local serving exchanges. If the customer's two sites are within the same local exchange area, the Main Link charge will not apply.

For customers able to commit to a five year term, the SHDS 1000 FT5 (Fixed Term 5 Year) product is available offering significantly reduced rental pricing.

Shift Charges

Shifts are allowed at any time during the contract period.

Where customers require one end (A or B) to be moved within the same building (an internal shift), Network Timescale rates (see Section 15) apply.

Where customers require the Local End to be moved to a new building (an external shift) within the same exchange area, then the appropriate connection charge for one Local End will apply. Where the external shift is made to a different exchange area, the appropriate connection charges for one Local End will apply and a new distance based rental charge will be calculated. If both Local Ends are required to be shifted, standard connection charges for a new circuit will apply.

All shifts involve a break in service. If a break is unacceptable, a new circuit can be provided between the existing customer sites, with the appropriate connection charges and annual rentals being raised.

Ancillary Charges (Excess Construction Charges)

The standard connection charge assumes that suitable fibres are already in place between the BT exchange and the on-site connection point. If such fibres do not exist, or additional work is required then additional charges will be levied. The customer will be informed of these charges prior to work commencing.

Charges for infrastructure over and above standard requirements are given in Section 45Part 1These charges include work on internal trunking & traywork; breaking through walls; additional poles, ducts and cables; radio charges and miscellaneous non-standard or specially requested items.

Ordering, Provision and Cancellation

Orders received must be accompanied with a completed Customer Requirements Form (CRF).

Depending on the work to be completed, BT aims to provide all standard services within 33 working days. However it must be noted that in some cases the nature of the work required will cause this aspirational time to be extended. BT aims to deliver 70%of circuits within 33 working days, and 98%within 60 working days.

Cancellation Charges are incurred based upon the number of working days of the installation that remain.

*This excludes any costs incurred as a result of ECCs (Excess Construction Charge). Any ECCs incurred will be charged in full based upon work that has been completed, see Ancilliary Charges above.

Service is provided under BT's "Conditions for Private Services"

Where service cannot be provided, the order will be cancelled without liability.

Contract Options

BT's Conditions for Private Services apply to Short Haul Data Services. The relevant contract options can be found in Sub Part 7 of this Section .

Early Termination of a FT5 (Fixed Term 5 Years) product

If a Customer ceases an SHDS 1000 FT5 circuit with a 60 month Minimum Period within year 1 then the Customer will pay a termination charge which shall be the 200% of the annual rental charge.

If a Customer ceases an SHDS 1000 FT5 circuit with a 60 month Minimum Period within year 2 then the Customer will pay a termination charge which shall be the 180% of the annual rental charge.

If a Customer ceases an SHDS 1000 FT5 circuit with a 60 month Minimum Period within year 3 then the Customer will pay a termination charge which shall be the 160% of the annual rental charge.

If a Customer ceases an SHDS 1000 FT5 circuit with a 60 month Minimum Period within year 4 then the Customer will pay a termination charge which shall be the 140% of the annual rental charge.

If a Customer ceases an SHDS 1000 FT5 circuit with a 60 month Minimum Period within year 5 then the Customer will pay a termination charge which shall be the 120% of the annual rental charge.
