Subpart 1:Special Assistance Operator Assisted Calls

Customers that require special assistance may use a BT Operator to connect calls to many destinations. Operator Controlled call charges for such customers are different to those calls made via the 100 Operator Service.

There is no charge for making a call to the 198 Special Assistance Operator. Charges only apply when the services described in this Section are requested.

Customers who connect to Directory Enquiries (DQ) via the 198 Special Assistance Operator will be charged as though they had made the call direct to DQ.

Charges for calls made through the Special Assistance Operator service generally have two parts: an Operator Service Charge, which is a fixed amount for each call, and a Call Charge based on the type of call, when it is made and how long it lasts.

This part describes the Call Charges. The Operator Service Charges are covered in the other parts of this Section.

The charges below apply to calls from BT lines to numbers in the UK, Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Calls can only be made to the services shown in this section, and not to all the services available for directly-dialled calls.

Operator Connected Calls from the UK,(except Northern Ireland), to the Republic of Ireland are shown in Section 40 of the BT Price List.

Calls that are onward connected by the Operator on behalf of the 195 (Blind and Disabled) service will be charged as if the call was to the 198 Special Assistance Operator.

Special Assistance - Operator Calls to the Republic of Ireland From Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man From Ordinary Lines

Calls from Northern Ireland to fixed telephones in the Republic of Ireland will be charged at the appropriate Inland rate. Calls from Northern Ireland to mobile telephones registered in the Republic of Ireland will be charged at the same rate as calls from the rest of the United Kingdom to mobile telephones registered in the Republic of Ireland. Calls to the Channel Islands and Isle of Man are charged at National rate.

Special Assistance - Operator Local and National Calls From Payphones

Charges are for each 183.9 seconds or part of 183.9 seconds. The minimum charge is for 183.9 seconds. Local and national calls are defined in Section 2 Part. 1 The amount inclusive of VAT is the amount of money that will be inserted at a BT Public Payphone. VAT exclusive prices will be used to calculate the charges for:

a)calls made via the operator from rented payphone lines

b)reverse charge calls from public or rented payphone lines

Calls to Republic of Ireland From Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man From Payphones

Calls from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland are charged as local or national calls. Calls to the Channel Islands or Isle of Man are charged at National Rates.

Charges are for each 183.9 second period or part of 183.9 seconds. The minimum charge is for 183.9 seconds. Additional Information

NB: It is not permitted for the Operator to onward connect calls to Premium Rate Services.
The call charge is rounded up to a whole penny. The timed duration of a call includes the time element for setting up and disconnecting the call on the BT network.
