BT may be asked to shift or remove line plant or its network equipment. The following situations apply:
1.Requests to shift the external wiring leading into a customer's premises (external shifts).
2.Requests by the customer for other Line Plant rearrangement, (this being BT plant which is part of its external Access Network such as poles, cables, cabinet boxes). These items may be on the customer's premises or on a third party's premises or the public highway.
3.Requests by the customer for Network Equipment rearrangement, this being BT network equipment lying between the Distribution Point and the exchange. These items may be on the customer's premises, but are more usually on a third party's premises or the public highway.
4.Requirements for BT to rearrange BT network or line plant resulting from a major Roadwork scheme or Act of Parliament.
Requests to rearrange or shift other equipment owned or rented by a customer or used exclusively by that customer where standard BT charges are not available are charged under Timescale (see Section 15 Part 8)
Eligibility
Applicable to all customers or third parties requesting external plant or network rearrangement, but BT is not always obliged to carry out this work (see Telecoms Act 1984 Schedule 2, Paragraphs 20 and 21)
Exclusions
These charges do not apply where BT chooses to replace, modernise or repair parts of its network or where rearrangement of Line plant or Network equipment is necessary in order to supply new service to a customer, although excess construction charges may apply in these circumstances. (see Section 45)

External Shifts
Requests to shift an exchange line to a different building on a customer's premises attracts normal connection charges (see Section 1 Part 2).
Requests to shift or reposition the external wire leading into the same customer building are charged as:
Rearrangements of BT Network Equipment and Lineplant
Charges for rearrangement work of BT Network equipment and Line Plant (other than external shifts) are based on costs and are assessed for each individual situation, following a survey to establish the full extent of the work (there is no specific charge for this survey). The charge is calculated taking into consideration the following: Stores, Construction charges by BT or its contractors, overheads and wayleaves. Different assessment methods are used for Line plant rearrangement work, network equipment rearrangement work and work for road schemes and Acts of Parliament.
Where it is necessary to carry out work on customer's equipment beyond the Network Terminating Point within the customer's premises or site, Time Related Charges may also apply (see Timescale Charges Section 15 Part 8)
Conditions
The customer must sign agreement to the rearrangement charges before the work commences.
